The Library’s first online exhibit is now up! This exhibit showcases Henry Bushby’s manuscript “Notes on Knots.” Composed of eight volumes with over 1,900 hand-written pages and beautifully drawn pen and ink diagrams, Bushby’s manuscript represents an in depth study of knotting and ropework, as well as knot theory. Be sure to click on the images for a close-up view of Bushby’s illustrations and text.

There are many knot researchers, like mr. Bushby, but it is very rare to find their thoughts so well-illustrated and eloquently worded as he did.
Thank you for advancing the science and art of knots by sharing Henry North Grant Bushby’s manuscript with the world.
T’is a great day for knots indeed!
How were you able to view the manuscript? Is membership in the museum required? I was not able to access the illustrations.
Apologies, we recently moved the exhibit to exist in our new digital library: Henry Bushby’s Notes on Knots
Thanks for the correction.
